Need fire protection services?
Promat DURASTEEL® Installation — Now Available from Krasi Fire Protection
Krasi Fire Protection Ltd is proud to announce that we are now a fully accredited, Promat-licensed installer of DURASTEEL® — one of the most advanced passive fire protection systems available in the UK. Whether you are a developer, contractor, specifier, or facilities manager, we can now offer you a complete DURASTEEL® installation service backed by Promat's industry-leading certification and our own proven expertise in fire protection.
What is Promat DURASTEEL®?
DURASTEEL® is a high-performance composite panel system manufactured in the UK by Promat. It combines a fibre-reinforced cement core with punched galvanised steel sheets mechanically bonded to both surfaces — creating a system that is simultaneously lightweight, incredibly strong, and outstandingly fire resistant.
Unlike many conventional fire protection materials, DURASTEEL® is truly "fit and forget". It is unaffected by firefighters' hoses and remains fully functional even during a fire event. It will not absorb moisture or combustible fluids, it does not corrode, and it retains its structural integrity over the lifetime of the building.
Key technical credentials include:
Provides 30 minutes to 4 hours of fire protection (up to 240 minutes)
Classified as non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4 and A1 to BS EN 13501-1
CERTIFIRE accredited across barriers, doors, partitions, ceilings and ductwork
Blast resistant and high-impact resistant — suitable for demanding environments
Independently accredited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
Tested with a full range of service penetrations and fire doors
Every completed installation is issued with a Certificate of Conformity
Who Needs DURASTEEL® — and Why?
Fire safety regulations in the UK have never been more stringent, and for good reason. Building owners, contractors, and specifiers all carry legal responsibility to ensure that fire protection systems are correctly designed, installed, and certified. DURASTEEL® is the preferred solution in projects where standard plasterboard or conventional systems simply cannot meet the required performance levels.
You are likely to need DURASTEEL® if your project involves any of the following:
High-risk or high-value environments where maximum fire resistance is non-negotiable
Locations subject to blast risk, high impact, or vandalism — such as transport hubs, industrial facilities, or utility infrastructure
Areas requiring long-duration fire compartmentation (up to 4 hours) within a slim, space-efficient profile
Buildings where hose-down resistance is essential — such as car parks, food production areas, or kitchens with extract ductwork
Projects where a Certificate of Conformity is required by the insurer, building control, or principal contractor
Retrofit or refurbishment schemes where achieving fire ratings without heavy construction is critical
Where is DURASTEEL® Used?
DURASTEEL® has a long and proven track record across the UK and internationally, featuring in some of the country's most demanding construction and infrastructure projects. Notable applications include Heathrow Terminal 5, Westfield London, and major wind farm facilities — but the system is equally at home on smaller commercial and industrial builds.
Typical applications include:
Fire compartment walls and partitions in commercial, retail, and mixed-use buildings
Horizontal fire barriers and ceilings in car parks, plant rooms, and mezzanine floors
Fire-rated ductwork (Duraduct®) for kitchen extract, smoke ventilation, and general HVAC systems
Fire doors and access hatches rated up to 4 hours
Blast and security barriers in power, transport, and defence-related facilities
Pallet racking fire barrier systems in warehouses and logistics centres
Why Choose Krasi Fire Protection for Your DURASTEEL® Installation?
Not just anyone can install DURASTEEL®. Promat only permits trained and accredited installers to work with the system — and we are proud to be one of a small, select group of licensed contractors in the UK. This accreditation is not simply a badge; it represents a rigorous process of training, assessment, and ongoing quality assurance.
When you work with Krasi Fire Protection, you benefit from:
Full Promat licensing — giving you complete confidence that the installation meets manufacturer specifications
Certificate of Conformity issued upon completion — satisfying insurers, building control, and end clients
Experienced installation teams with a thorough understanding of passive fire protection requirements
A single point of contact for survey, design advice, installation, and certification
The peace of mind that comes from working with a dedicated fire protection specialist
Compliance, Certification, and Peace of Mind
Fire protection is a life-safety discipline — and the documentation behind it matters as much as the product itself. Every DURASTEEL® installation carried out by Krasi Fire Protection is subject to a thorough post-installation check before a Certificate of Conformity is issued. This document provides legally recognised evidence that the system has been installed correctly and to the specified standard.
In a regulatory environment shaped by the Building Safety Act and heightened scrutiny around passive fire protection, having certified, traceable installation records is not optional — it is essential. DURASTEEL®, installed by a Promat-licensed contractor such as Krasi, provides exactly that assurance.
